Only musicians on our confirmed list required to meet at Abravanel Hall at noon wearing concert black attire. Performing Maurice Ravel: Bolero It is our privilege for Utah Youth Symphony Orchestra and Utah Youth Philharmonic to take part in Utah's premiere state-wide youth orchestra festival, sponsored by the Utah Symphony. The Youth Symphony Festival of Utah is a prestigious annual event featuring the best youth orchestras from all over Utah taking the stage at Abravanel Hall. The Festival serves as a showcase for youth orchestras, as well as for individual musicians. The selection process for all musicians to play the annual All-Star Side-by-Side concert with the Utah Symphony in the Spring will take place at the end of the day after the Festival; only Festival participants are eligible for the Side-by-Side concert.
This event is for musicians only. There will be no admittance for anyone other than orchestra musicians.

In an historic first, Utah Youth Symphony Orchestra and Utah Youth Philharmonic will appear on stage together to play Bolero by Maurice Ravel . Performances at Temple Square concerts are FREE and open to the public. However, tickets are required and restrictions apply. Please visit their website at www.lds.org/events to order free tickets and for additional information. Musicians participating in the performance do not need a ticket. Barbara Scowcroft, Music Director Dan Rich, Conductor The Utah Youth Preparatory Orchestra, under the baton of Dan Rich, will perform a recital of pieces learned during this first concert recital. It is free of charge, and all are invited. Light refreshments provided after the 45 minute performance.

Jenny Oaks Baker was the Utah Youth Symphony's former concertmistress in the early 1990s; Her “Silver Screen Serenade” CD features music from memorable movies such as Young Frankenstein, Wizard of Oz, An American in Paris, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Romeo and Juliet.
